Answer

There were only five types made for the Corvair engine.

Lesser known, and rarely used, where the 2 and 4 plate oil coolers.  These are not practical for any application and will not be covered here.

The three "popular" type are:

 1)  The "Folded Fin" or "Radiator Style" oil cooler.

Usage:  1960 (can be used on all engines, all years)

 Pros:  Best efficiency.

 Cons:  Hard to keep clean.

2)  The "8 Plate" oil cooler.

Usage:  1961-69 (can be used on all engines, all years)

Pros:  Moderate efficiency for non-performance engines.  Easy to keep clean.

Cons:   Not suggested for High Performance engines.

 3)  The "12 Plate" oil cooler.

Usage:  1964-69 for Turbo, A/C, and 140hp engines (can be used on all engines, all years)

Pros:  Best cooling.  Easy to keep clean.

 Cons:  None
