Larry that looks perfect! I think I might to pressure gauge on one side and the light on the other.
Did you get a chance to get a little done on the 60?

Re: Pulling Drivetrain from my 1960 700 sedan- clutch work
Sorry for not posting but I have spent a lot of time in the garage lately in a mad dash to get the '60 finished in time for the Autorama car show in Beloit this Sunday. I hope to see ALL of you here for the event and a really great time!
It has been a lot of tediuos work but the engine has cleaned up very nicely and I'm back to reassembling the drivetrain so i can reinstall it.

As I mentioned previously in this topic the engine is a low milage original and never been molested but there was oil and grit everywhere! It was a "Leaker" for sure!
I have replaced all of the gaskets and installed Viton o-rings & main seals front and back. Same for the transmission and the transaxle. It's been a steady process of soaking baskets full of small parts and hardware in the solvent tank and then using a toothbrush to scrub the goop off. Shroud tins got the heavy duty cleaning, the same as the engine block. They have been followed up with a wire brush in the drill or hand scuffing with steel wool before a rattle can dress up of Duplicolor Low Gloss Black. So far it's looking pretty good!

Outstanding job Larr! I take it you didn't opt for taking off the heads? How was it running before you pulled it?
I can't wait to do this to mine. Are you detailing the engine compartment as well?
I sadly will not be at the autorama this year.
I have to pick my battles, and this year it's the birthday party.
Can't wait to see this machine all back together and beaming at the 50th!

Nope, I didn't pull the heads. This engine runs fine, it's really smooth and has good power for an 80 HP.
The original reason for the whole project was to replace the clutch and I'm just now getting to that point. If you look at the list of things I wanted to do during this project I have done most of them along the way. Last night I got the pilot bushing changed out in the end of the crank shaft and got the new bolted flywheel and clutch disk installed with the original pressure plate. The pressure plate was still grimey so I cleaned it up good and finished by polishing the glaze off the pressure shoe by hand with some emory cloth then bolted it up. So far that was about the smoothest part of this whole job!

Larry, looking good!!
I was planing on making it down to the show but my Grand Mother fell and broke her hip so I will be going to Mo for the weekend.
I was also not looking forward to the grass as I can hardly move around in it. It is not much fun to not be able to see the other cars.
I will be a the Milwaukee show and can not wait to see the 60!!
PS. Curtis I like my wagon on the top of the forum!! Can you add a gas door for me? LOL

Morning guys! (i see we're all on)
You are going a fantastic job Larr. We'll have to start putting price tags on our projects. Could be fun and informative for those watching.
What is the big advantage to a bolted flywheel? I have one installed in the Spyder.
Thanks for the detailed pics also!
Remember that you can register for events on this site to show which events you are attending. Also, Nick from Chicago will be attending the Autorama. He is driveing a Red LM Corsa (65) w/ custom rims.
Sorry to hear about your Grandma. Hope you have safe travels.
Re: P.S. Nice surprise eh? I'll see what i can do about the gas door. Larry needs to get a nice shot of the 60 so i can put it up there also.

You can't reinstall with the old one in place? I thought the project centered around the clutch? C'mon Larr, if you can't do it, there is no hope for the rest of us!

Is the 60 3 speed different than other Corvairs?
What the heck could be holding the input shaft in?
Don't give up you still have a little time!!!!
